Effective April 2010 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a new Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting rule (RRP). Individuals performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, childcare facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Failure to comply with the RRP rule can lead to a $37,500 for each infraction by the EPA. For most individuals, eight hours of training is required.
